character final reflection

At this point I am sure that what I thought concept art was is not what it is. For me becoming a concept artist will not work. I will do well being a photographer and using my pictures in my other art projects, including creating calendars and books.
I have found the assignments in this class to all be interesting and make me work and think hard. My projects all seem to evolve over time, some changing in mere minutes, others over the period of either hours or days. Some of my ideas seem to jump from fingers to paper, while others seem to get stuck in the ether and translation. This includes my writing as well as drawing.
Rough patches I had in plenty. These included having my brain lock and refuse to let ideas loose to appear on paper in any form. When this happened I found it very hard to get any work done. Others included trying to figure out where the drawing was going, and what its story was. In the end I feel that I may have been very successful in overcoming the Rough spots.
In all of my work, I found myself trying to bring an idea into clear focus for myself and my viewers. I feel that I was fairly successful in doing this. Asking for suggestions on what was working or might work better also helped me in all of my work and projects in this class. Using the suggestions or tweaking them often brought an idea into focus and made it a success.

character tales

pitcher is Mrs. Potts sister. she is tall and thin instead of short and stout. she is more elegant and haughty and does not have any children.

the trees started as mushroom stems and evolved into what they are now. they are best friends and enjoy visiting strange places. at times they can change their colors to suit the place where they are, sort of like a chameleon.

another character

This Character was completed using ink sketch and portions of Photographs.  the eyes I took from the internet.  All other photos were taken by me in the past year.

these two I used the warp tool after copying from the original drawings.

This one I used the warp tool after copying the pen and ink sketch several times. I also played with colors to make each layer stand out.

character reflection essay

In the game World of Warcraft, I play a human warlock. I chose a female because I am female. The name I gave her is Shastafyre. The choice of hair color, style and various other features is selected at the creation of a character. Because I like red hair that is long, I chose to give her red hair that is fastened in a clip at her neck. I also chose the face based on features that I like and that I think reflect who I am.
During the past few years as I have played Shastafyre I have made minor changes in the way she looks. These changes have been hair color and style, though the hair style is always long. Color choices are generally reds and golds, though once I chose silver.
Being female has a great deal to do with my choice of female characters when playing any game. Often I will choose hunters because they always get a pet to help them. This makes my choosing to create a warlock, a magic wielder, unusual. One reason I did so, is because warlocks in WOW (World of Warcraft) get minions (pets).
I am grateful to the concept artists and others who are involved in creating the graphics for my favorite game. This class is helping me to solidify what I want to do with my art.
I have included many pictures of Shastafyre as she is now and some of the choices for hair that I have made.

Sketch Inspirations

most of my inspiration for my sketches came from my imagination or from books I have read. in part the flowers have come from a game I play.

Some more Sketches

here are some more sketches. I think they are all that are left from the assignment, though it is possible I have counted wrong.

I kinda like the second group here best. this assignment has been difficult for me, mostly because I am used to drawing stills or things that do not move.it has also been hard because I am not used to working to draw this much on such a tight timeline.

Sketches from yesterday

I see you....

more Sketches, some for fun

here are some more sketches, some done for class and some just for fun or to release pressure caused by stress.
this was done in class and is frustration being released

another one done in class today. this was done after the first one.

this one I did at home. for this one and the one above I used a different technique. I started with 3×3 inch canvas in Photoshop and drew each drawing. next I copied and pasted each one into a 5X7 canvas, and then arranged them on the canvas. Each was then saved for web and in Photoshop.

Sketches again today

I have been very prolific today. Due to this I have even more sketches to present. There are more than ten on this page. The extras are there to fill space on the page. I hope you enjoy them.

more sketches

I hope this works. The original file was very large.

Silhouette redos

here are the five silhouette redos.  all are labled "before" and "after".  "before" lables are the original silhouette, and "after" lables are the modified ones.  modifications include resizing and some reshaping.

todays sketches

this is the work I did today in class.  I am finding it hard to create characters that are not inanimate things like flowers.  flowers move through out the day with wind and sun. they also change in color as the light changes.

Silhouettes Reflection

This was a fun assignment. It let me have fun drawing freehand with my new Tablet. I also drew with the mouse while waiting for the Tablet to arrive. Drawing with a mouse is not something I would recommend. Use a Tablet as it is ultimately easier.
Prior to this assignment I had not really thought much about silhouettes or what they were. Now I can draw them, but I feel I need to do more and possibly do them faster.
I started out with no plan, but by Wed I had a plan. Wed I started drawing lots of different mushrooms in several forms. A few times I deviated and drew something else, an eye or snake, instead. I also drew five in a sort of scene.
My favorite image is one of the larger mushrooms; however that changes each time I look at them. I started out with a line drawing done in Photoshop. I then filled in the drawing until it was all black. I found this to be a very effective method for me to use.

assignment silhouettes

These are the last of the assignment. Hope everyone enjoys them.

continuing work

more of my silhouettes

Finished Known Silhouettes

the finished page of known character silhouettes.  forgot to ask, but do I need to identify them at some point?

slow fast work

WelI I am  slowly getting this fast work done.  This is in part because I am waiting for my new tablet to arrive.  It will be here on friday sometime.

So here are five of my own silhouettes drawn in Photoshop with a mouse...not my prefered way of doing things.

More will be forthcoming along with the known character silhouettes.
